After a twenty year association the band made their final appearance at the Cedars Inn on Sunday 21st December.
The Band is now known as
The Golden Coast Big Band
(Click above link to go to the new site)
Portmore Golf Park (Landkey Road, Barnstaple) has kindly offered their large new function room for a few dates (see the new site above). If the band has good support at the new venue it may become a more permanent home allowing the band to continue entertaining the dancers and music lovers of North Devon.
So please come and show your support.
Entry is £3 but the drinks are a lot cheaper than at the Cedars.
The band is looking for a lead trumpet.
This is our home
Barnstaple, North Devon
The Band plays predominantly swing music from the 30s, 40s and 50s – the great days of the
‘swing era’ – with many tunes from the ‘Great American Song Book’.
We play numbers made famous by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton,
Ray Noble, Hoagy Carmichael, Charlie Barnet, Benny Carter, Quincy Jones etc. etc., as well as earlier tunes such as Bix Beidebecke’s lovely Davenport Blues and more recent material such as Now's the Time, Spinning Wheel, Moondance, Superstition...
We also play arrangements with a Latin beat, such as Perfidia, Besame Mucho, The Girl From Ipanema.
This is great music for dancing as well as just listening.
